Our Beliefs

Bible.jpgNorthway Christian Family Church accepts the Holy Bible as the complete foundation for knowing God. The following statements describe our beliefs. We present them so that all of our members can use them in describing their faith.

Statement 1. The Authority of Scripture
Statement 2. The One True Godhead
Statement 3. The Fall of Man
Statement 4. Repentance
Statement 5. The Salvation of Man
Statement 6. Baptism in Water
Statement 7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit
Statement 8. Communion or the Lord’s Supper
Statement 9. The Laying on of Hands
Statement 10. The Church
Statement 11. The Resurrection
Statement 12. Eternity

Statement 1. The Authority of Scripture.

The Bible is the inspired Word of God, and is His primary method of communicating with mankind. In it one finds God’s plan of provision for the spiritual, emotional, physical and material needs of His people, as well as His expectations of their response. (Psalm 19:7, 119:89-91, 2 Timothy 3:16-17)

Statement 2. The One True Godhead

The Godhead is comprised of three separate and distinct personalities, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, who function as one entity. God the Father is the traditionally thought of God in Heaven. Jesus Christ is God in human form. The Holy Spirit is God as He lives in and helps each believer to accomplish his/her ministry in life. (Matthew 28:19, 1 John 5:7, Romans 8:11)

Statement 3. The Fall of Man

Man was created good and upright in God’s own image, but he sinned by choosing to disobey God’s Word. Now, mankind’s only hope of restoration is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. (Genesis 1:26-28, 3:1-7, Romans 3:22-24)

Statement 4. Repentance

According to its original definition, to repent means “to think differently”. Specifically, each person must consider his/her need for the Savior, Jesus Christ. (Acts 3:19) This change in thinking will ultimately result in a change of behavior (Acts 26:20), but the process remains distinct for each individual. (Philippians 2:12-13, Romans 12:2)

Statement 5. The Salvation of Man

Salvation is a free gift that cannot be earned; it must be received by faith. (Ephesians 2:8, Romans 3:22-27) A person’s actions do not save him/her. Faith in Christ, however, will show itself through the following actions (James 2:17): a) The believer will confess Jesus as Lord. (Romans 10:9) b) The believer will demonstrate love for others. (1 John 3:14, 23)

Statement 6. Baptism in Water

Baptism is a public declaration that the believer chooses to identify with Jesus in His death, burial and resurrection. All who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior should be baptized in water. (Romans 6:3-9)

Statement 7. The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Every believer can expect and seek to be baptized in the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus spoke about (Acts 1:4-5, John 7:38-39) and is demonstrated throughout the book of Acts. (Acts 2:1-4, 8:14-17, 10:44-46, 19:5-6) With this experience comes the provision of power for telling others about Christ. (Acts 1:8)

Statement 8. Communion or the Lord’s Supper

According to Jesus’ own words, believers are to partake of His Body and Blood on a regular basis in order to remind themselves of His sacrifice for their sins, and to receive His spiritual nourishment. (Matthew 26:26-28, 1 Corinthians 11:24-28, John 6:51-57)

Statement 9. The Laying on of Hands

The practice of placing hands upon a person is a scriptural means of conveying some aspect of God’s power into his/her life. (Acts 19:1-7, 13:2-3, 2 Timothy 1:6, Matthew 9:27-29, Acts 28:8-9, Mark 10:13-16)

Statement 10. The Church

The church is a group of believers, working together like the parts of a body to accomplish the purposes of God on the earth. Therefore, every member should seek to discover and fulfill his/her God-given ministry within the church and/or beyond. (Ephesians 1:22-23, 1 Corinthians 12:12-27)

Statement 11. The Resurrection

Jesus is coming again to the Earth to bring to Heaven all those who have received Him as Lord. At that time, all believers who have died will be raised, followed by those that are still alive. (1 Corinthians 15:51-53)

Statement 12. Eternity

A person’s acceptance or rejection of the Lord Jesus Christ determines where he/she will spend eternity. Those who have rejected Him will be banished from the Presence of God and will dwell in torment in the place the Bible calls Hell. Those who have accepted His work of salvation will live forever with Him. (Revelation 20:11-15, 2 Peter 3:13, Revelation 21-22)
